Brass, unlike iron, does not create magnetic deviations. It was practically the only metal allowed
in wheel houses and near compasses. Our brass boxed dry compass is a faithful reproduction
of early ones used by fishermen and small craft navigators sailing the coast of Europe and
Eastern United States. Boxed compasses were also used by early navigators and explorers.
