In March 1941 the Greys, the last surviving British cavalry regiment with horses, was mechanized. The Regiment was present at El Alamein, the Italian Campaign, D-Day, June 6th 1944, and the drive into Germany. In 1991 the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards used Challenger tanks against the Iraqis during Operation Desert Storm. This unique color scheme of khaki green, light mud, and blue-black flecks was used in Italy by a number of British regiments. It also carried a distinctive division symbol and color-coded unit designations.
