Unable to land, 16th century navigator Tristao da Cunha graciously lent his name to a small
rocky island in the immense expanse between Cape Horn (South America) and Cape of Good
Hope (Africa). Later, the British Empire did land and left a small garrison. Today the descendants
of the soldiers remain, living off the land and sea. Large rowboats with easy to step mast and
rig are essential to the islanders. To make them light and strong, also compensating for lack of
wood, the boats were built of strong canvas cloth stretched across a timber frame. The Tristan
Tender. Our intricate scale model, a perfect miniature of a rugged original.
