The Consolidated B-24 "Liberator" long range bomber was the most produced U.S. aircraft of World War 2.
They were used in operations in every combat theater during the war.
Because of the B-24's great range, it was particularly suited for such missions as the
famous raid from North Africa against the oil industry at Ploesti, Rumania on
August 1, 1943. This feature also made the airplane suitable for long
over-water missions in the Pacific Theater (used by the NAVY in PB4Y form).
When production ended in May 1945,
18,475 B-24's had been built.
