Product Description

The F-106 "Delta Dart" fighter, built by Convair, is an all-weather interceptor developed from the Convair F-102 "Delta Dagger." Originally designated the F-102B, it was redesignated F-106 because it had extensive structural changes and a more powerful engine. The first F-106A flew on Dec. 26, 1956, and deliveries to the Air Force began in July 1959. Production ended in late 1960 after 277 F-106A's and 63 F-106B's had been built.

The principal mission of the F-106B is to function as a pilot proficiency trainer while maintaining full tactical capabilities. The airplane incorporates a delta wing with a cambered leading edge extending from wing root to wing tip and swept tail surface. The airplane has the capability for air refueling from flying boom equipped tankers.

The airplane model is made entirely by hand: From the handcarving of the aircraft fuselage, wings and tail section, to the sanding of the aircraft's contours. Every part is assembled precisely into place. After shaping and sanding, the airplane model passes through several stages of priming and sanding before it is hand painted to duplicate the actual colors, emblems and insignias of the original historical aircraft. Finally, multiple coats of clear lacquer are applied to protect the artwork and provide an overall glossy finish.
