During the California Gold Rush, when eggs cost $1 each and a sack of flour sold for $100, competition for trade was fierce. Great clipper ships, know as California Clippers were built for speed. The Flying Cloud was built in East Boston in 1851. She sailed from New York to San Francisco in 89 days and 8 hours - a record that still stands!
Mamoli's Flying Cloud ship model kit features double plank-on-bulkhead construction using tanganyka and walnut. Frames are pre-cut and mahogany plywood is provided for deck parts. Fittings are pre-cut and mahogany plywood is provided for deck parts. Fittings are cast metal, brass and walnut. Gilded cast metal figurehead and nameplate, metal anchors, three wooden ship's boats, four thickens of rigging, flags, and wood for display base complete the kit. Four large sheets of plans and clear instruction guide you through assembly.
