Launched in 1797, the
U.S.S.Constitution earned her
nickname "Old Ironsides" after a sailor saw a cannonball
bounce off her hull. Resting in Boston Harbor, she is the
oldest commissioned warship in the world.
Mamoli's kit is perfectly accurate, using such fine woods as
walnut, beechwood, tanganyka and mahogany. From her 32
burnished metal cannon and 20 carronades to the golden
eagle on her stern, the model is magnificent. Metal gunports
provide perfectly aligned openings. And, you get three
thicknesses of rope for lifelike rigging. Ten giant sheets of
plans and instructions along with numbered, pre-cut wooden
parts make for trouble-free assembly.
