The Scottish Maid was a two-masted top-sail clipper schooner built in 1839 by Alexander Hall and Company. Their goal: to compete with the newer steamships that were rapidly making sail power obsolete. The Scottish Maid's fine, sharp bow and large sail surfaces enabled her to move at very high speeds even while loaded with heavy cargo.
